About the Client
The Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) is a leading interdisciplinary research centre at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Established in 2010, CeNSE is dedicated to advancing research and development in nanoscale systems across a diverse range of fields, including nanoelectronics, MEMS/NEMS, microfluidics, nanomaterials, photonics, and more.
Guided by their motto, “from science to systems to society”, CeNSE offers a comprehensive ecosystem under one roof. This includes a wide array of academic programmes, expert guidance from leading researchers, access to world-class facilities and consultancy services. This integrated approach aims to provide everything needed to translate innovative ideas into tangible outcomes. The centre also fosters strong collaborations with academic institutions and industry partners, playing a pivotal role in nurturing talent and driving advancements in the nanotechnology sector in India.
Recognising its potential to contribute significantly to the burgeoning semiconductor landscape in India, particularly within the context of the India Semiconductor Mission, CeNSE aimed to enhance its visibility, attract high-calibre students, and strengthen its engagement with industry stakeholders.
Challenge
Despite its strong foundation and significant contributions to the field of nanoscience and engineering, CeNSE, IISc, faced several key challenges in fully realising its objectives:
Limited Visibility and Awareness: While highly respected within academic circles, CeNSE's comprehensive offerings – from its excellent academic programs and state-of-the-art facilities to its expert consultancy – were not widely known among prospective students, industry partners, and the broader semiconductor ecosystem in India. This limited their ability to attract the desired quality and quantity of student applications and engage with potential collaborators.
Difficulty in Articulating Comprehensive Value: The "everything under one roof" approach, while a significant strength, wasn't effectively communicated to target audiences. Potential students might have been unaware of the breadth and depth of the academic programs. Industry players may not have fully grasped the accessibility and capabilities of the facilities or the expertise available for consultancy.
Need for Enhanced Digital Presence: Their online channels may not have been optimised to effectively showcase their strengths, highlight student success stories, or provide clear pathways for student admissions and industry partnerships. The content available might not have been easily digestible or tailored to the specific needs of different stakeholders.
Approach
To address CeNSE, IISc's objectives of enhancing visibility, improving student admissions, establishing their reputation within the India Semiconductor Mission, and increasing engagement for industry partnerships, we implemented a multi-pronged content and engagement strategy across online and offline channels. Our approach focused on creating customer-centric, digestible, and scientifically sound content tailored to different stakeholder groups. Key initiatives included:
Targeted Engagement for Student Admissions: We developed specific content and engagement strategies to attract high-quality applicants to CeNSE's diverse academic programs in semiconductor technology, including:
PhD Program
M.Tech in Semiconductor Technology
M.Engg (1yr) in Semiconductor Technology
Joint M.Tech in Semiconductor Technology
Leveraging Quora for Engagement and Visibility: Recognising Quora's potential to reach prospective students and industry professionals, we implemented the following:
Student Admissions Conversations: We actively participated in relevant Quora discussions, providing insightful answers to queries about CeNSE's programs, admission processes, and life at IISc. This direct engagement aimed to build trust and provide valuable information to potential applicants.
Highlighting the Indian Semiconductor Scene: We created content on Quora that showcased the growth and opportunities within the Indian semiconductor ecosystem, strategically positioning CeNSE as a key enabler and a perfect platform to enter this thriving sector.
Showcasing Research Excellence and Faculty Expertise: To build a reputation and attract potential collaborators and students, we developed a series of content highlighting CeNSE's research prowess and faculty achievements:
Research Facility Posts: We created visually engaging posts and content showcasing CeNSE's state-of-the-art research facilities, emphasising their capabilities and accessibility for both internal and external users.
Faculty Spotlight Posts: We developed engaging profiles of individual faculty members, highlighting their expertise, research interests, and contributions to the field.
